The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the operating licenses of four major public transport operators following a series of fatal road crashes recorded during the December festive season.
In a statement, the Authority said the suspensions are part of ongoing efforts to curb road carnage, noting that the affected operators violated safety regulations, failed to comply with the law, and breached the PSV code of operations.
The operators whose licenses have been suspended are Guardian Coach Limited, Nanyuki Express Cab Services Ltd, Monna Comfort Sacco, and Greenline Company Ltd.
NTSA said investigations revealed that the operators failed to adhere to speed limit regulations, ignored mandatory safety audits, and violated key operational conditions.
Guardian Coach Limited was linked to a fatal crash that occurred on January 6, 2026, at Kimende along the Nairobi–Naivasha Road. The company has been given 21 days to comply with NTSA directives or risk complete withdrawal of its license.
A total of 24 vehicles from the company have been ordered to undergo speed limiter checks, while 18 drivers have been suspended for 90 days and directed to undergo retesting.
Nanyuki Express Cab Services Ltd was suspended following a fatal crash on January 4, 2026, at Karai along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway. NTSA directed that 128 vehicles belonging to the company undergo speed limiter inspections, while 26 drivers were suspended for 90 days.
Monna Comfort Sacco’s operations were suspended immediately after a fatal crash on December 23, 2025, at Muhonje along the Eldoret–Webuye Road. Nineteen vehicles from the Sacco are to undergo compliance inspections, with one driver suspended for 90 days.
Greenline Company Ltd was also suspended with immediate effect following a fatal crash on January 4, 2026, at Karai along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway. NTSA ordered 33 vehicles from the company to undergo compliance inspections, while 29 drivers were suspended for 90 days.
The Authority has also issued strict night travel safety conditions, including mandatory fatigue management systems, submission of passenger manifests, and compliance with licensed night routes.
NTSA warned that any vehicle found operating despite suspension will be impounded by the Traffic Department. Members of the public have been advised not to board vehicles belonging to the suspended operators as the Authority intensifies its crackdown on reckless and unsafe public transport operations.
