President William Ruto has nominated Dr. Duncan Oburu Ojwang for appointment as the Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), setting the stage for a parliamentary vetting process.

In a communication to the House, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed receipt of the nomination and accompanying documents, including the nominee’s Curriculum Vitae, testimonials, and the Report of the Selection Panel.

The Speaker has since referred the documents to the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, which will conduct vetting hearings before tabling a report for consideration and approval by the House.

Dr. Ojwang, a legal scholar and former Dean of the School of Law at the University of Nairobi, brings a wealth of experience in human rights advocacy, constitutional law, and academic research.

If approved, he will assume leadership of the Commission at a time when the KNCHR is under increased public scrutiny over its role in safeguarding civil liberties and monitoring state compliance with human rights standards.
