The Government has released KSh18.5 billion in capitation to support the operations of public basic education institutions as schools reopen for the third term of 2026.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba said Term Three officially began today, with pre-primary, primary, junior and senior schools reopening across the country.
Ogamba said the KSh18,508,271,486.60 allocation is intended to facilitate smooth learning and school activities during the new term.
KSh1.4 billion has been allocated to the Free Primary Education programme, while Free Day Junior School Education will receive KSh6.14 billion.
Free Day Secondary Education has been allocated the largest share at KSh10.96 billion.
The Ministry of Education revealed that the funding demonstrates the Government’s commitment to ensuring learners access free and compulsory basic education, as provided for under Article 53(1)(b) of the Constitution.
Ogamba directed school heads and principals to ensure the funds are used prudently and exclusively for the benefit of learners.
He warned institutions against imposing unauthorised levies on parents and learners, saying the Ministry will take firm action against verified cases of misappropriation of public resources.
The CS said the timely release of capitation is aimed at ensuring schools operate effectively and provide uninterrupted learning during the third term.
