The government is set to deliver 4,566 mixed-use housing units under the Shauri Moyo B Affordable Housing Project, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has said.
Developed concurrently with Shauri Moyo A,
this will be one of the government’s major Slum Upgrading Programmes which aims at changing Nairobi’s informal settlements into safe, dignified and well-planned urban communities.
Beyond the housing, the the prohect will feature development of kindergarten, swimming pool, hospital, shoping mall and a clubhouse, making it an integrated environment for residents where essential services and social facilities can be accessed easily within the locality.
According to Omollo, this project is generating thousands of jobs opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled workers across the construction value chain. Beneficiaries include engineers, technicians, artisans, contractors, suppliers, transport operators and young people.
Omollo pointed out that the government, in collaboration with the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, will be developing and strengthening local administrative structures and engaging the communities to back the development and implementation of transformative projects.

Taking into account the current urban renewal activities in the Nairobi area, the project won’t only increase affordable housing options but also support and generate economic opportunities for the local residents.
