President William Ruto has called on Kenyans, including church leaders, to be careful and factual as they engage in matters of national importance.

This is seemingly his response to Catholic Bishops after their hard-hitting presser on Thursday, November 14, in which they criticised Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.

In the presser, the bishops condemned the government for allegedly developing a culture of deception, saying truth no longer exists under the current administration.

They also took issue with the rampant corruption, abduction and femicide cases reported in the country recently.

The men of God went on to accuse the government of prioritising issues not important to Kenyans such as the extension of leaders’ term limits from five to seven years.

However, speaking on Friday during the Tangaza University Graduation Ceremony, Ruto implied the bishops’ assertions are far from the truth.

"I want to urge everybody, including the clergy, that even as we engage in matters of public discourse and matters of great importance to Kenyans, we have to be careful to be factual lest we become victims of what we accuse others of doing," said Ruto.

Previously, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot dismissed bishops’ claim that the bill seeking to extend the term limits is being rushed in parliament.

Cheruiyot said the bill in question, Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2024, was rejected by the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee and it has since been dismissed.
