Quickmart Supermarket has denied rumors spreading online that bodies were found at its OTC branch in Nairobi after the deadly protests on Wednesday, June 25.
In a statement released on Thursday, the supermarket debunked the claims, stating that they are false and misleading.
It said no one, either staff, customers, or anyone else was killed or injured at either the OTC or Ruiru branches, though both stores were affected by the protests.
“We want to assure everyone that these reports are not true. No one was harmed at our branches,” the company said.
Quickmart added that it’s working to get things back to normal and is supporting its workers and customers during this time. It also said it’s in touch with authorities and will keep the public updated.
People who usually shop at the OTC and Ruiru stores were asked to visit nearby Quickmart outlets for now.
This statement came as the country was still in crisis from protests that left at least some people dead. According to Human rights groups, there could be a higher number, with some reporting 16 deaths.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen blamed the unrest on political incitement, saying protesters damaged public property, including police stations, roads, and power lines.
