Residents of Ndunyu in Nyandarua County set their local police station on fire on Thursday evening after a boda boda rider was allegedly shot by a police officer.
The boda boda was part of a group that was protesting outside the station over ongoing cattle theft in the area.
The locals were angry about the three suspects who had been arrested but were still in police custody.
They wanted the suspects handed over to them and deal with them. It was at this moment that an officer reportedly shot the rider, leaving him badly injured.
The crowd was furious and turned on the police post, setting it on fire as they called for justice.
Videos circulating online showed the station in flames while residents cheered from a distance.
The rider was rushed to North Kinangop Hospital. Police are yet to release a statement about the incident.
This comes after earlier that day when Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen had said police would deal firmly with anyone threatening officers or government property, blaming the justice system for failing to keep criminals behind bars.
