Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has condemned the Sunday attack on Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, which occurred just moments before the football match between Harambee Stars and Gabon at Nyayo Stadium.
Mudavadi stated that political intolerance undermines the very foundation of the nation’s democracy, emphasizing that democracy thrives on the ability to engage with differing opinions.
“What happened to Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium is unfortunate. We may not always agree, and that’s perfectly fine. However, respect, dialogue, and unity must remain non-negotiable,” Mudavadi said.
He stressed that respect must both be given and earned, and that it is only through unity that Kenyans can build their nation. He warned that allowing division to prevail would threaten the future of the country.
“A house divided cannot stand. Let’s choose reason over chaos and maturity over noise. Kenya’s future depends on it,” the Prime Cabinet Secretary urged.
During the incident, Salasya, who was attending the packed match between Harambee Stars and Gabon, was attacked by a group of rowdy youths.
Viral videos show Salasya being manhandled and pushed toward the stadium exit, while others threw objects at him.
Some individuals attempted to protect him from the attack, while the crowd shouted, “Lazima aheshimu Raila,” meaning “He (Salasya) must respect Raila.”
