The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has praised voters from Ol Kalou Constituency for their participation in the July 16, 2026 by-election. It was a turnout of 57 percent.
In a statement, the commision expressed appreciation to the people of Ol Kalou for their peaceful behavior during an electoral exercise and extended thanks to all Kenyans for this peaceful electoral exercise.
The commission acknowledged the contribution of political parties, security agencies, administrators, civil society, the media and development partners, noting that their collaboration helped deliver a credible election and bridge financial gaps in the by-election budget.
“We equally recognize the constructive engagement of stakeholders throughout the electoral cycle and appreciate the development partners whose support helped bridge financial gaps in the by-election budget.” The statement read
It also commended IEBC staff for their dedication and commitment for long hours that resulted in the election conducted fully complying with law in full compliance with the law.
IEBC stressed that the election’s success is a collective effort and that all players must safeguard the electoral process integrity through playing their respective roles.
The Commission declared it would initiate a thorough post-election review matching with international excellence standards to measure achievement, recognize problems, get a handle on what should be done and make changes that can be put into practice on future elections, including the preparation for the 2027 General Election.
“In line with international best practice, the Commission will undertake a comprehensive review of the by-elections to assess what worked well and what can be strengthened” the statement read
Besides, voter registration for the constituency of Ol Kalou will be reopened after the completion of the 28, day statutory petition period provided under Section 76 of the Elections Act
IEBC urged politicians leaders, and the community to promote peace and constructive participation in Kenya’s democratic processes.
