The Kenyan media fraternity is reeling from the sudden and tragic loss of seasoned journalist Nick Mudimba, who passed away on Sunday evening, March 23, 2025, after collapsing at his home in Syokimau, Machakos County.
Mudimba, a respected anchor and reporter at CGTN Africa, had a distinguished career that included stints at KTN and Switch TV, where he left an indelible mark on sports journalism.
Mudimba’s untimely death came just hours after he had cheered on the Harambee Stars during their FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon.
Family sources revealed that the journalist had been battling health complications, including high uric acid levels, and had sought medical attention on Saturday.
After taking prescribed medication on Sunday evening, he suddenly collapsed and began convulsing. Despite efforts to save him, Mudimba passed away at home.
His body was later transferred to a mortuary in Syokimau as the family awaits an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The news of Mudimba’s passing has sent shockwaves through the media industry and beyond. Colleagues, friends, and fans have taken to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to a man whose dedication to journalism and passion for sports touched many lives.
Citizen TV anchor Mashirima Kapombe mourned him with heartfelt words: “Death, why are you so cruel? Eternal rest grant unto Nick Mudimba, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.”
Other media personalities shared memories of working alongside Mudimba.
Seth Olale reminisced about their last moments together at the AU Media Center in Addis Ababa, where Mudimba assisted him with technical installations. “Rest in peace, my brother Nick Mudimba,” Olale posted.
Similarly, Ferdinand Omondi described Mudimba as “one of the kindest souls I ever met” and remembered his infectious laughter and camaraderie. Lofty Matambo reflected on Mudimba’s vibrant personality, saying: “You were so full of life until your death this evening. Life is indeed brief.”
Mudimba’s illustrious career was marked by his deep passion for sports journalism.
He was known for his ability to connect with audiences through insightful reporting and commentary on Kenyan football.
His last tweets rallied Kenyans to support Harambee Stars ahead of their match against Gabon, showcasing his unwavering love for the game: “Let’s fill Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.
Gambia must fall. There’s something about this Harambee Stars team.”
The media fraternity is grappling with this loss amid another tragedy—the recent death of Fredrick Parsayo, a journalist with KBC who passed away under unclear circumstances just days earlier in Kinoo, Kiambu County.
Nick Mudimba leaves behind a legacy of excellence in journalism that will be remembered for years to come.
