Kitui’s Ithookwe Stadium project has reached 96 percent completion. The 10,000-seater stadium will for the first time, be the venue of the Mashujaa Day celebrations, a national holiday that lifts up Kenya’s heroes.
The KSh700 million facility marks the first occasion that Kitui County will host the Mashujaa Day celebrations. The Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, together with the Interior Ministry Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, led a government delegation to the site of progress.
Mvurya said he was satisfied with the way the works had progressed but informed that the handover to the celebration committee, which was originally scheduled for tomorrow, had now been postponed to next Tuesday to allow for the final touches.
PS Omollo praised the cooperation between the national and county governments and assured that the stadium would be available by 20th October.
Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe extended his gratitude to the national government saying the project is a game-changer for the region.
The energy sector will be the focus of this year’s Mashujaa Day besides the tribute to the national heroes.
