Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has publicly endorsed Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) leader cfor the Deputy President position in the United Opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement shared on X on Sunday, the MP said Wamalwa has remained loyal to the opposition leaders and deserves to deputise the coalition’s presidential candidate.

“Come 2027, I believe you deserve to be the Deputy President in the United Opposition as the face of Western Kenya,” Salasya wrote.

He praised Wamalwa for standing with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua and other opposition principals through difficult political moments.

The MP also pledged his loyalty to the former Defence Cabinet Secretary, claiming some leaders from the Western region had turned against him.

“Even if some Bukusu leaders, like Jack Wamboka and George Natembeya, choose to betray you, I, Kijana Muwanga, will remain loyal to you because you stood with me to the very end,” he said.

Salasya then issued a warning, saying he would not support any coalition arrangement that leaves Wamalwa out of the Deputy President slot.

“If you are not considered for the position of Deputy President, I will not be part of that arrangement. Instead, I will focus on serving my people of Mumias East and begin preparing for my political journey toward 2032,” he added.

His remarks come at a time when leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi coalition are positioning themselves ahead of negotiations on the coalition’s presidential ticket.

Recently, an Infotrak opinion poll ranked a Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna ticket as the most preferred combination among the opposition options presented to respondents.

The findings have fueled debate over who should lead the coalition into the 2027 election.

Although the opposition has maintained it is focused on forming a united front against President William Ruto, it is yet to unveil its presidential candidate or running mate.

Salasya’s latest remarks are likely to pile more pressure on coalition leaders as discussions over the 2027 ticket continue.
