The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Elections Board (NEB) is set to conduct nationwide grassroots party elections at the ward level in a move aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The exercise follows what the party described as its most elaborate grassroots elections ever conducted at the polling centre level, during which more than 543,000 party officials were elected across the country.
During the polling centre elections, party members elected 20 representatives in each polling centre drawn from various interest groups. These include three farmers, four representatives of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), three professionals, two general members, three religious representatives, four youth representatives, and one representative of Special Interest Groups (SIGs).
According to the party, the 20 elected officials from every polling centre will now form the electoral college responsible for electing the UDA Ward Congress in each of Kenya’s 1,450 wards.
The National Elections Board, chaired by Anthony Mwaura, said the ward-level elections are anchored in the UDA Party Constitution and are intended to strengthen the party’s grassroots operational architecture as preparations for the 2027 General Election gather pace.
The board also announced that it has developed mechanisms to accommodate the unique democratic dynamics of the North Eastern region during the formation of the party’s grassroots structures, with the aim of ensuring an inclusive and representative electoral process.
The deliberations were also attended by UDA National Elections Board Vice Chairperson and Nominated MP Ali Abdisirat Khalif, alongside other members of the board.
