Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga has sharply criticized Deputy President Kithure Kindiki for failing to foster unity within the Mount Kenya region.
Kahiga accused the DP of blindly following instructions without considering the potential consequences for the region, which holds significant voting power.
The Governor further claimed that Kindiki was overly cautious about his position, fearing replacement as Deputy President.
Without holding back, Kahiga noted that since his appointment, Kindiki has yet to visit his own home area.
He challenged Kindiki’s leadership, questioning, “Muthomi Njuki, go tell the Deputy President to stop being afraid. He has never even come home. Why is he afraid of being removed? Does he think Gachagua will die if he is replaced? How can he unite the country if he hasn’t even united his own people?”

Nyeri Governor Kahiga Mutahi.
Kahiga continued, urging the DP to overcome his fears and step up: “He shouldn’t be intimidated. Some people are telling him that they gave him the position, but what does that mean? We didn’t elect him to be treated like a mere figurehead. He should not be afraid—he is the Deputy President of Kenya.”
Kahiga, a staunch ally of former DP Rigathi Gachagua, has previously criticized Kindiki’s rise to the second-in-command position following Gachagua’s impeachment but has since expressed support for the DP.
