More than 15 schools from different parts of the country were involved in the consecutive robotics challenge that was held in Runda, attracting young innovators to demonstrate their creativity, teamwork, and technological skills.
The event, which was planned by Stemtrix, aimed at recruiting innovations and collaboration among learners to prepare them for worldwide robotics competitions in China, the United States, and Kenya.
According to Stemtrix Director Christine Onyango, the challenge is the student’s part of a large plan to equip them with practical problem-solving and critical-thinking skills through hands-on STEM education.
“Our goal is to enable the youth to come up with creative ideas and at the same time, work as a team to find solutions to the problems existing around them using technology,” Onyango explained. “This competition is giving them the opportunity to be creative, to work together and to be prepared for the global stage.”
Parents and teachers from Nairobi and Kisumu were very impressed by the program, they noted that it’s the pillar of Kenya’s next generation of tech leaders.
They commended the students for their creative abilities, stating that the program is revolutionizing the teaching of science and technology in schools.
The robotics challenge had different competitions, such as automated design, coding, and engineering presentations, all of which were geared towards encouraging learners to apply science and technology to solve everyday challenges.
The teams that will be crowned winners at the local level are those that will go on to represent Kenya at the international robotics competitions, thus, exhibiting the country’s expanding footprints in the field of STEM innovation, according to the organizers.
