Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has emphasized the importance of negotiations in resolving the ongoing conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Speaking after co-chairing the East African Community (EAC)-Southern African Development Community (SADC) Ministers’ Meeting, Mudavadi called for a collective response to the crisis, which continues to displace millions.
“Our discussions focused on negotiation as a key pathway to ending the prolonged crisis, which continues to expose vulnerable groups—women, children, and Persons with Disabilities—to severe harm,” said Mudavadi.

Beyond the humanitarian impact, he warned that the conflict is exacerbating broader threats, including sexual violence as a weapon of war, resource exploitation, and the weakening of state institutions.

Mudavadi underscored the need for sustained dialogue among all stakeholders to achieve lasting peace. “Dialogue remains our strongest tool in forging a sustainable solution, and I urge all stakeholders to embrace it,” he stated.

He also expressed gratitude to his co-chair, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Prof. Amon Murwira, as well as fellow foreign ministers for their valuable contributions.

The meeting served as a precursor to the upcoming Summit of Heads of State and Government, where regional leaders are expected to outline a united course for peace in the DRC.
