The Ministry of Health has announced the appointment of Mercy Mwangangi as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Social Health Authority (SHA).
The appointment was made by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Friday, April 11, after the conclusion of a competitive recruitment process that attracted 92 applicants.
Mwangangi, a health financing and policy expert, will take over from Elijah Wachira who was dismissed last year over alleged professional conduct and performance issues.
She is famed for her role as the Ministry of Health’s Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mwangangi is currently the Senior Health Systems Strengthening Director at AMREF Health Africa where she has been spearheading health financing and health security investments across Africa, securing development assistance funding for primary healthcare and universal coverage expansion.
Duale expressed confidence that she has what it takes to steer SHA and deliver on the mandate of SHA.
