The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has received a major boost to its medical services after India donated a modern MRI machine to support treatment for military personnel.
Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru and India’s High Commissioner to Kenya Adarsh Swaika witnessed the handing over of the medical equipment in a function in Nairobi following the signing of the agreement between the two parties.
“This gift will go a long way in improving medical services in the KDF as well as improving relations between Kenya and India,” Mariru stated.
The equipment will be used at the Kenya Navy Hospital in Mtongwe, Mombasa where it will assist the doctors in conducting more effective medical diagnosis for the military.
According to the Defence PS, this will help soldiers get specialized treatment while improving the military’s readiness, which is still involved in training.
Mariru added that this gift will help the soldiers have better chances of getting the necessary treatment, which will ultimately affect their performance at work.
The meeting involved high-ranking officials from the military of both nations, including Krishna Swaminathan, and also from the KDF.
This move follows the recent efforts made by Kenya and India to fortify their military alliance.
An Indian navy warship called INS Trikand recently docked at the port of Mombasa for four days as part of efforts to foster ties between the two naations.
According to officials, such partnerships will remain crucial for enhancing military activities and support services such as health care provision.
