Kenya and the United States are expanding their health partnership, with a focus on making Universal Health Coverage (UHC) a reality.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi on Monday held talks in Nairobi with a US team led by Susan Burns, the Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy.
The meeting centred on how the two countries can work together on health financing, stronger systems, and joint action on global health security. Kenya has been picked as a priority partner under the programme.
CS Duale said the government is pushing reforms such as digitising services, removing unqualified workers, and dealing firmly with fraud at the Social Health Authority.
Both sides agreed to set up a joint team that will guide cooperation on UHC and improve Kenya’s readiness to deal with health emergencies.
The meeting was also attended by senior officials including Dr Ouma Oluga, Mary Muthoni, and Dr Chris Kiptoo.
