Chief Inspector Agnes Ndanu has been released from Kasarani Police Station after detectives collected her DNA samples as investigations into the death of Nicole Omondi entered a critical stage.
Ndanu was arrested over allegations that she pushed the 25-year-old from an apartment in Thome Estate, Kasarani, leading to her death.
Kasarani DCIO Aloyce Mboya said detectives have completed key investigations and are now waiting for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to decide whether the senior police officer will face criminal charges.
“We have done our part. The file is now with the DPP, and we are awaiting directions on the way forward,” Mboya said.
The collection of DNA samples is expected to help investigators verify forensic evidence gathered from the apartment where Omondi died.
Nicole Omondi died after falling from the sixth floor of the apartment under circumstances that remain under investigation.
The incident sparked public outrage, with family members and Kenyans calling for a thorough and impartial probe.
Detectives have been piecing together witness statements, forensic findings and other evidence to establish what transpired before Omondi fell from the building.
Police have not disclosed the outcome of the forensic analysis or whether any other suspects are under investigation.
The DPP will review the evidence submitted by investigators before deciding whether to approve charges, order further investigations or close the file if the available evidence is found to be insufficient.
The decision is expected to determine the next phase of a case that has attracted widespread public attention and renewed calls for accountability in investigations involving police officers.
