Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on community elders across Kenya to continue promoting peace, unity and democratic participation as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election.
Mudavadi made the remarks after joining President William Ruto at State House for a meeting that brought together elders from different communities to discuss their role in strengthening national cohesion and supporting development at the grassroots.
He described community elders as custodians of Kenya’s values, culture and traditions, saying their guidance has helped the country remain peaceful, stable and resilient over the years.
“Strong nations are built on the wisdom of those who came before us. Community elders remain the custodians of our values, culture and unity, providing guidance that has helped keep Kenya peaceful, stable and resilient through generations,” Mudavadi said.
During the meeting, Mudavadi also praised President Ruto’s growing profile on the international stage, saying the Head of State has emerged as one of Africa’s leading voices on issues of peace, trade, climate action and economic transformation.
He urged the elders to mobilise their communities in support of peaceful coexistence, national unity and active participation in democratic processes while backing government development programmes at the grassroots.
Mudavadi further called for a decisive outcome in the 2027 General Election, arguing that political stability would enable the country to sustain its development agenda without prolonged uncertainty.
The community elders, in turn, reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the government to ensure national programmes reach every village, improve livelihoods and deliver lasting benefits to communities across the country.
The meeting forms part of the government’s broader efforts to engage traditional leadership structures in promoting national cohesion, peace and inclusive development ahead of the next General Election.
