Police officers in Nyamira County have arrested a suspect and recovered an unlicensed firearm following a tip-off from members of the public, in an operation aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal weapons.
The National Police Service (NPS) said officers attached to Sengera Police Station in Manga Sub-County conducted the operation on Wednesday, August 5, in Magogo Village, Nyangena Sub-location.
During the operation, officers recovered an illegal Tokarev pistol and an empty magazine. The suspect was immediately arrested and escorted to Sengera Police Station, where he is being processed ahead of his arraignment in court.
Police said the recovered firearm has been secured as an exhibit as investigations continue.
The National Police Service commended residents of Magogo Village for providing timely and credible information that led to the successful operation.
“The National Police Service commends the residents of Magogo Village for their cooperation and timely information, which was vital in removing an illegal weapon from the community,” NPS said in a statement.
The police reiterated that public cooperation remains critical in the fight against crime and urged Kenyans to continue reporting suspicious activities through the nearest police station or the toll-free emergency numbers 999 and 911.
