Police in Kiambu County have commenced an investigation into the death of an officer whose body was found close to Kinale Forest about 800 metres from Soko Mjinga Police Station.
The police say the officer worked the 6:00 a. m. shift on Tuesday but went off duty at roughly 11:40 AM and failed to return.
A search was mounted by his co-workers, later led to the discovery of his body lying at the edge of Kinale Forest, with his assigned AK-47 rifle beside him.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the officer had sustained two gunshot wounds, one on the left side of the chest and another on the back.
Detectives also recovered four spent cartridges about five metres from the body, alongside the loaded rifle and one round of ammunition that had been removed from its chamber.
The firearm was seized by the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer for ballistic analysis as investigations into the circumstances under, which the shooting occurred are carried out.
The body was taken to Uphome Funeral Mortuary for autopsy.
An inquest file has been initiated by police, with forensic evidence likely to assist police in determining the cause and circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
