Political leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) in Nakuru almost engaged in a fistfight while jostling for positions in the yet-to-be-launched outfit in the county.

During a meeting of aspirants at Milimani office in Nakuru, two leaders, Kariko Mwangi and Hezron Manyara, nearly exchanged blows, prompting intervention from present leaders.

Addressing the media, Kariko said that some of the leaders wanted to confront him on why he wanted to take up the position of the party’s county coordinator, while it is fully occupied at the moment.

“We had concluded the meeting well when this individual came to me and confronted me on why I am eying the position of the coordinator. I have never said that I have an interest in the position,” Kariko said.

He said that during the vetting of the aspirants, most of them expressed a desire for him to take up the position of the county chair of the party.

Kariko said that they have been raising concerns over the transparency and accountability of the resources within the leadership, and some of the leaders have not taken it lightly.
