Cricket Kenya (CK) board members have passed a vote of no-confidence in acting treasurer Kennedy Obuya, marking the latest development in the ongoing leadership wrangles within the federation.

In a statement signed by six board members, the group cited multiple reasons for the decision against the former national team player.

“It was unanimously resolved that a vote of no-confidence be passed in Kennedy Obuya on the following grounds: abuse of office; failure to perform his duties under the Constitution; mismanagement of Cricket Kenya’s resources and finances; and bringing the game of cricket into disrepute,” the statement read.

The statement was signed by Pearlyne Omamo (Director, Women’s Cricket), Thomas Odoyo (Director, Development), Tariq Iqbal, Beryl Oyugi, Mary Maina, and Pauline Njeru.

The vote was passed during a board meeting held on Tuesday, just three days after a rival faction led by CK Chair Manoj Patel and Obuya convened their own meeting and passed a set of counter-resolutions.

Tensions within Cricket Kenya continue to escalate ahead of a Special General Meeting (SGM) scheduled for October 19. The international cricket governing body is expected to send a representative to Kenya to engage with Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and discuss the federation’s path forward.
