Facebook users on Sunday reported difficulties accessing the social media platform, with many saying they were unable to log in, load their accounts or use some of its features.
Some users were greeted with an error message that read: “Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”

Outage tracking website Downdetector showed a sharp rise in reports as users flagged login failures, pages not loading and other service disruptions. The platform relies on user reports to detect possible outages.
The reported disruption appeared to affect users in several countries, with many taking to other social media platforms to complain that Facebook was either inaccessible or not working as expected.
By the time of publication, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the reported outage or when services would be fully restored.
Facebook is one of the world’s largest social media platforms, allowing users to share photos and videos, send messages, join groups and buy or sell products through Marketplace.
Any disruption can affect millions of users, businesses and content creators who rely on the platform every day.
The outage comes just a day after President William Ruto’s official website was hacked, with the attackers replacing the homepage with a message demanding a ransom of five Bitcoins.
The government later confirmed the cyberattack and said investigations had been launched to establish those behind the breach.
While there is no evidence linking the two incidents, they have both raised fresh concerns about the security and reliability of major digital platforms.
This is a developing story and will be updated once Meta issues an official statement or provides more information on the reported disruption.
