President William Ruto has inspected the ongoing construction of the 67-kilometre Illasit-Rombo-Chala-Njukini-Taveta road in Oloirien, Kajiado County, saying the project will boost trade, tourism and movement of people and goods across the region.
The KSh9.4 billion road is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Kajiado and Taita-Taveta counties from about two hours to 40 minutes once completed.

Ruto said the project is progressing well, with 48 per cent of the works completed since construction began in June 2025.
“The KSh9.4 billion road is a major economic corridor that will ease movement of people and goods, cut travel time from two hours to 40 minutes between Kajiado and Taita-Taveta counties, and unlock trade in the region,”he said.
The road is scheduled for completion by March 2027, which the President said would be nine months ahead of the original timetable.
The project is expected to serve as a major economic corridor, opening up new opportunities for businesses and farmers while improving connectivity between communities in Kajiado and Taita-Taveta counties.
Ruto said the road would also help unlock the tourism potential of Amboseli and Tsavo national parks, while strengthening cross-border trade between Kenya and Tanzania.

During his visit, the President also addressed residents of Oloirien and outlined ongoing development projects in Kajiado County.
He said the government is constructing 220 kilometres of roads in the county at a cost of KSh13 billion.
The government is also undertaking affordable housing projects, construction of 17 modern markets and development of student hostels for universities and colleges, with the projects estimated to cost KSh28 billion.
The investments form part of the government’s wider development programme aimed at improving infrastructure, expanding economic opportunities and supporting trade and tourism in Kajiado and neighbouring counties.
