Kenya and the United States have reaffirmed their long-standing partnership built on shared values and strategic cooperation during a high-level diplomatic meeting held in Washington, D.C.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi met with U.S. Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio, where they discussed a wide range of issues including regional peace and security, expanded trade and investment, and enhanced diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

“Kenya and the United States continue to build on decades of shared values and strategic cooperation,” said Mr. Mudavadi following the meeting.

A key focus of the discussions was the acceleration of the Kenya–U.S. Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which both sides agreed should be fast-tracked to unlock greater economic potential and deepen bilateral trade relations.

Mudavadi also briefed the U.S. delegation on the current regional peace efforts led by the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), noting the involvement of five African Heads of State in driving the initiative.

Senator Rubio expressed strong U.S. support for Kenya’s leadership in promoting regional stability and democratic governance, and reaffirmed Washington’s backing of the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission to Haiti.

“Sen. Rubio reaffirmed U.S. support for Kenya’s leadership on regional stability, democratic governance, and the Kenya-led MSS Mission in Haiti,” Mudavadi stated.
