Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi is receiving specialized treatment at Karen Hospital in Nairobi after he was allegedly abducted and later found abandoned and injured in a coffee plantation in Kiambu County.
The MP was discovered by boda boda operators at Jacaranda Coffee Plantation on Monday, a day after he was reportedly seized by individuals believed to be police officers shortly after attending a church service in Ruiru.
According to eyewitness accounts, Koimburi appeared physically distressed and was unable to speak, communicating only through writing or typing.Initial treatment was administered at a hospital in Ruiru before he was transferred to Karen Hospital for further medical care.
A team of political leaders, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, addressed the press outside the hospital, expressing outrage over the incident and demanding accountability.“The MP cannot speak at the moment. He is only able to communicate through writing. This is a grave human rights violation,” said Gachagua.
Despite growing political pressure, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has distanced itself from the alleged abduction.
In a statement, the DCI confirmed they had been pursuing Koimburi since Friday in connection with investigations into alleged land fraud and misuse of Constituency Development Funds (CDF). However, the agency denied any role in his disappearance.
Opposition leaders have condemned the incident as a blatant abuse of power and have threatened legal action against the Inspector General of Police and the National Police Service.
They are demanding an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Koimburi’s abduction and the alleged involvement of security agencies.
As the controversy unfolds, the MP remains under medical supervision with Kenyans awaiting further clarity on both his condition and the investigation.
