Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is set to visit Kenya on Friday morning to assess preparations for next year’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).
Motsepe will kick off his East Africa tour in Tanzania on Thursday before heading to Kenya, with his visit concluding in Uganda.
“During his visit, Dr. Motsepe will meet with government officials, football leadership, and local organizing committees from the three host countries. The itinerary includes visits to stadiums and training facilities currently undergoing renovations ahead of the competition,” read a statement from CAF.
Concerns have been raised about Kenya’s readiness for the biennial tournament, particularly with delays in work at the Kasarani and Nyayo Stadia, with less than six weeks remaining before the competition begins.
However, Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured that Kenya will be ready to host CHAN. In an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net, Murkomen said:
“I want to assure CAF and the Kenyan public that we will be ready to host CHAN. We are putting everything in place, working tirelessly, and mobilizing all resources to ensure a successful tournament next year. The government is fully committed to making this happen,” Murkomen stated.
