Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has held bilateral talks with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Vice President Zou Jiayi on infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening Kenya’s tourism and regional connectivity.
Miano hosted Jiayi during her official tour of Kenya, where they discussed AIIB’s continued support for major infrastructure developments, including the Rironi-Mau Summit road project and the expansion and modernization of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The CS said world-class infrastructure remains critical to Kenya’s tourism growth, noting that modern aviation hubs, efficient transport corridors and sustainable networks can improve visitor experiences, reduce travel times and open up access to emerging tourism circuits.
During the meeting, Kenya welcomed AIIB’s interest in supporting its broader green regional connectivity agenda. Key projects highlighted included the completion of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), the Mau Summit-Malaba Expressway, expansion of the Ports of Mombasa and Lamu, and development of the LAPSSET corridor.
Miano said Kenya’s ambition to become a premier global tourism destination is closely linked to the strength, efficiency and sustainability of its infrastructure.
The meeting was attended by Roads PS Joseph Mbugua, Aviation and Aerospace PS Teresia Mbaika and other government officials.
