Leadership Shake-Up at KNH and JOOTRH as Duale Announces New Appointments

The government has announced that more than 7,400 health workers under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program will be absorbed into the public service from September 2025, following a nationwide verification exercise.

According to the Ministry of Health, the joint headcount conducted with the Council of Governors confirmed 7,629 staff on the payroll.

However, 215 were flagged as ghost workers or unqualified personnel after failing to present themselves for verification.

Their salaries have since been stopped and their cases referred for further investigation and possible recovery of irregular payments.

Health workers who were cleared and are in active service will now be formally transitioned into government employment.

They will not be accepted by those who have cases of indiscipline or are absentees from duty, whose fate will be determined according to Public Service Commission (PSC) regulations.

The ministry said the move forms part of general reforms aimed at increasing accountability, improving the health workforce, and facilitating effective use of public resources.

This is a process that attests to our commitment towards fairness, transparency, and the government’s commitment to delivering quality health care through Universal Health Coverage,” the statement added.
