A 30-year-old nanny was arrested by police in Naivasha for allegedly killing her employer, Jane Wambui Njoroge, and burying her body in the backyard of the family home.

Mary Chebet was arrested by detectives after being tracked by detectives after Wambui, a nurse at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, went missing last week. She had been reported missing by her husband on July 4 after failing to return home from work.

Detectives say Chebet cracked during questioning and led them to the Karai home where she worked. Behind the house, officers found Wambui’s body buried in a shallow grave.

The body was retrieved with help from public health officials. Pieces of clothing had reportedly been tied around her neck.

Chebet is currently under custody at Naivasha Police Station as police finish making their investigations. She will probably appear in court soon.

The police are yet to determine the motive of the murder.
