St. Georges University (SGU) School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, organized an in, person information session in Nairobi, Kenya, to inform prospective medical students and their families about the opportunities at the university. The event was held on Friday, 16 January 202 at Sankara Nairobi
The primary purpose of the session was to offer general information on SGUs medical education, faculty programs/tracks, and student support services. The visitors had a chance to talk with representatives of SGU and find out more about the Doctor of Medicine (MD) programs structure, which consisted of the four, year MD program as well as the five, and six, year MD tracks.
Part of the workshop featured a live virtual contribution of Jamil Moloo, a current SGU School of Medicine student, who was connected via Zoom from Grenada. The student talked about the academic environment, campus facilities, and living in Grenada from his personal experience.
Speaking at the event, Anne Grace Mbabazi, Regional Manager, International Student Recruitment, Africa at SGU, expressed her thoughts about the event:
“This session was perfect for us to underline the benefits of studying medicine at SGU and also to give the attendees full information about the 4 years MD program and the five, or six, year MD tracks. It was very nice to have a chance to talk with potential students in Kenya who dream of becoming doctors in the US or UK. Kenya is still one of the key countries in SGUs international community considering the number of doctors who graduated from us.” said Mbabazi
SGU graduate, Dr. Brigid Midwa shared, the moment when she was helped and supported throughout her studies: St Georges University was not only academically but also emotionally very supportive at the time of my studies. I saw from the first day that I had the guidance of the staff who really wanted me to succeed.
In addition to the panel discussion, the session had a Q&A part that allowed the attendees to communicate with SGU representatives directly. The panel consisted of a present SGU student, doctors Dr. Steve Mungai and Dr. Brigid Midwa who both graduated from SGU, and a parent representative, Ms. Keizra Moloo.
With more than 100 attendees including prospective students and parents, SGU agents, financial institution representatives, and community leaders from Kenyathe event was a testament to SGUs.
