The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a partial closure of the Nairobi Southern Bypass for maintenance work scheduled for this weekend.
In a public notice issued on Monday, June 2, KeNHA stated that the affected section is near the entrance to the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) camp, directly opposite Nairobi National Park.
The disruption will occur over an eight-hour period, beginning at 10 pm on Saturday, June 7, and ending at 8am on Sunday, June 8.
The temporary closure is necessary to allow for the installation of stress-strain sensors on the road surface.
These advanced sensors are embedded into the pavement to measure how the road materials respond to various forces, particularly from heavy vehicles.
The data gathered will help KeNHA assess the durability and structural integrity of the highway, enabling more informed decisions regarding maintenance, upgrades, and construction standards for major roads like the Southern Bypass.
KeNHA clarified that the disruption will only affect a single outer lane over a 10-metre stretch of the bypass, ensuring that the entire road will not be closed.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the affected area and to follow directions from police officers and traffic marshals who will be present to manage the flow of vehicles during the maintenance period.
