Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika sparked laughter and political speculation during the 62st Madaraka Day celebrations after accidentally mentioning “Wamunyoro” instead of “Wanyororo” in her official speech.
While listing development projects, Kihika said, “Construction of two lecture rooms at Wamunyoro—sorry, Wanyororo Vocational Training Centre, including fencing,” which immediately caught the crowd’s attention and elicited wild reactions.
The slip was notable because Wamunyoro is the rural home of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, located in Nyeri County, far from Nakuru, and has become a politically charged symbol following Gachagua’s fallout with President William Ruto and his impeachment.
Aware of the political implications, Governor Kihika quickly corrected herself and reassured the audience of her loyalty to President Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), declaring, “No, I am on Ruto’s side, every day,” to loud cheers.
She humorously vowed to fire her speechwriter for the mistake.
