The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) has initiated nationwide public participation forums to gather input on the draft Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) Regulations, 2025.
These engagements aim to ensure inclusivity and compliance with public participation requirements in shaping the country’s education and training landscape.Speaking at the forum, KNQA Council member Joseph Njau emphasized the importance of collaborative engagement in refining the framework that governs qualifications, quality assurance, and alignment with industry needs.”This exercise is not just a legal requirement but a crucial step in ensuring that our National Qualifications Framework serves the needs of all stakeholders. By gathering insights from the public, we can make our regulations more inclusive, effective, and aligned with both national and international standards,” Njau stated.
The revised KNQF Regulations seek to enhance qualification levels, recognition of prior learning, credit accumulation and transfer, and the registration of qualifications awarding bodies. These reforms aim to create a unified, credible system that facilitates mobility, lifelong learning, and recognition of skills in a rapidly evolving job market.
Njau highlighted that KNQA has made significant progress in implementing education and training reforms that improve equity, access, and quality.
.However, as labor market demands continue to shift, the framework must remain adaptive to ensure that the workforce is well-equipped to contribute to economic growth.”As we navigate these changes, we must ensure that education and training remain relevant to industry needs. By fully operationalizing the KNQF Act, we can establish an efficient and effective qualifications system that benefits learners, institutions, and the broader public,” he added.Public participation remains a key component of refining the framework.
Stakeholders, including educators, employers, and students, have been urged to actively contribute their perspectives to enhance the regulations.
Njau encourages open discussions and constructive contributions, stating that a well-structured qualifications framework will enhance learning outcomes and address existing gaps in the education and training sector.The public engagement forums will continue across the country to ensure all voices are heard before the final adoption of the KNQF Regulations 2025.
