President William Ruto today held talks with Her Royal Highness Sophie Helen Rhys-Jones, the Duchess of Edinburgh, at State House Nairobi, where the two reaffirmed the strong diplomatic and economic ties between Kenya and the UK.
During the meeting, the leaders noted the longstanding relations between the two countries and committed to further strengthening cooperation under the renewed 2025-30 Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership.
Ruto said the partnership will focus on expanding trade, attracting new investments and deepening collaboration in key sectors that support economic growth and job creation.
He said Kenya and the UK will work to unlock fresh investment opportunities, particularly in flagship projects such as the Nairobi Railway City, which is expected to transform urban mobility and spur commercial development in the capital.
The two countries also agreed to enhance cooperation in green growth initiatives, including climate action, clean energy and sustainable development, as well as strengthen security collaboration to support regional stability and safeguard shared interests.
Ruto said trade between Kenya and the UK has continued to grow steadily, delivering mutual economic benefits.
In 2025, Kenya exported goods worth Sh243 billion to the UK, compared to imports valued at Sh133 billion, resulting in a favourable trade balance for Kenya.
The President said the strong trade performance underscores the importance of the UK as one of Kenya’s key economic partners and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for investment and business.
The visit by the Duchess of Edinburgh reflects the deepening bilateral engagement between the two countries as they seek to broaden cooperation in trade, investment, climate action and development for the benefit of their people.
