Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced President William Ruto’s government’s plan to recruit more police officers.

Speaking on Sunday during an interdenominational service in Lodwar, Turkana county, Kindiki said the recruitment exercise will be held in March 2025.

The recruitment, the DP said, will help bolster security efforts in the country and other volatile areas whilst offering employment opportunities to the youths, as in Ruto’s manifesto.

''We have employed additional officers to the Kenya Defence Forces and even for that of police officers that had delays, we will be recruiting about 5,000 police officers in March. We are trying to create more job opportunities in the public sector and the informal sectors,'' said Kindiki.

Also in his speech, Kindiki pledged to work closely with his successor in the Ministry of Interior to ensure the country’s safety.

“Even as deputy president, I will continue to work with the new Interior CS to make sure that our country is safe. We pray for the minister but we will be there to offer backup to make sure that our country is safe," the DP added.
