The Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) has announced that a section of Kiambu Road will be closed temporarily for two weeks, from December 23, 2024, to January 6, 2025.
In a notice released on Saturday, December 21, KENHA explained that the closure is part of the ongoing work to rehabilitate and reconstruct the Ruiru-Tatu City-Kiambu (B115) Road. The affected section will be between the Kirigiti Roundabout and St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The closure will begin at midnight on Monday, December 23, 2024, and end at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Motorists who typically use this route will be diverted through the Kirigiti-Rui Stage Junction-Kiambu Town route during the closure. KENHA has also urged drivers to be cautious when approaching the work zones, follow the traffic management plan in place, and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals at the scene. The closure will coincide with the holiday season, adding to the disruptions that travelers heading upcountry may face.
This announcement comes just one day after KENHA reported significant traffic congestion along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway ahead of the Christmas holiday.
KENHA Director General, Kung’u Ndung’u, stated that the traffic issues were mainly affecting the Rironi-Naivasha-Nakuru Road and the Rironi-Mai Mahiu-Naivasha Road. He advised motorists to consider alternative routes, such as the Naivasha-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru route, the Flyover-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru route, and the Ngong-Suswa-Narok-Mau Narok-Nakuru highway. “The Authority, with the support of traffic police, is available to provide guidance and traffic control to ensure safe and timely travel,” KENHA’s statement concluded.
