Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has received a comparative study report on the administration of diplomatic privileges and immunities across United Nations duty stations, marking a key milestone in Kenya’s efforts to strengthen its position as a leading global diplomatic hub.
The report is expected to guide reforms aimed at aligning Kenya’s diplomatic systems with international best practices, improving service delivery to the diplomatic community, and reinforcing Nairobi’s status as the only United Nations headquarters in the Global South.
Mudavadi observed that as the United Nations continues to expand its operations in Nairobi, the recommended reforms will streamline administrative procedures, enhance efficiency, and further position Kenya as a preferred destination for diplomacy and multilateral engagement.
“We will leverage these insights to align with international best practices, enhance service delivery to the diplomatic community, and reinforce Nairobi’s role as the only UN Headquarters in the Global South,’he said.
He directed all relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to fast-track implementation of the recommendations, with clear timelines set for execution.
The briefing was attended by senior officials, including Dr. Ida Odinga, Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNEP, Chief of Staff Joseph Busiega, Ambassador Josphat Maikara, Director General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs.
Others who attended included, Ms. Evelyn Cheluget, Director General for Immigration, Dr. Rose Koros of JKIA, and Dr. Resila A. Onyango, Commandant of the Diplomatic Police Unit, among others.
