Kenya’s powerhouse trio—Janeth Chepngetich, Agnes Ngetich, and double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet—have set their sights on a historic podium sweep in the women’s 10,000m at the World Championships in Tokyo this September.

Chepngetich made a bold statement at the national trials on Tuesday morning, powering to victory in 30:27.0 at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Ngetich was hot on her heels, clocking 30:27.4, with Chebet securing the final automatic spot in a dramatic blanket finish at 30:27.5.

A thrilled Chepngetich admitted that while she hadn’t expected to win, her main goal was simply to secure her ticket to Tokyo.

Now, with qualification in hand, her focus shifts to sharpening her speed ahead of the global showdown.

Ngetich echoed her teammate’s thoughts, emphasizing the critical need for a strong finishing kick in championship racing.

“At the World Championships, you have to be fast in the final 200 meters,” she said. “So, I’ll be focusing more on speed in the build-up.”
