Chief Justice Martha Koome has announced that a whooping KSh 6.7 billion has been released back to the economy through the Milimani Small Claims Court.
This is a result of the expeditious resolution of cases at the court, which was established in April 2021 as the first Small Claims Court in Kenya, enhancing access to justice.
Since its establishment, Koome revealed a total of 85,466 cases have been filed, with 65,691 resolved.
In 2025 alone, the CJ said 13,552 cases have been filed, making it the busiest of Kenya’s 40 Small Claims Courts.
Koome was speaking when she visited the court alongside Chief Registrar Winfridah Mokaya and JSC Commissioners Antony Mrima and Everlyne Olwande to engage with adjudicators and staff on improving service delivery.
Note, money released back to the economy means that funds tied up in legal disputes have been freed up through court decisions, allowing that money to be circulated and used in economic activity again, often achieved through swift resolutions of commercial cases via mediation or other efficient processes.
