Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has strongly condemned the attack on Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya that occurred on Sunday.
Wamalwa expressed concern over the rising culture of violence and hooliganism, especially during funerals in Western Kenya, and called for collective condemnation of such acts.
“The growing culture of violence and hooliganism, particularly during funerals in Western Kenya, including the incident involving my DAP-K Deputy Party Leader, Governor George Natembeya, at Malulu’s funeral in Malava, Kakamega County, must be condemned by all. The individuals behind these attacks should be held accountable,” Wamalwa stated.
The former Cabinet Secretary’s comments came after an incident where Governor Natembeya was forced to leave the home of the late Malava MP, Malulu Injendi, after encountering rowdy youths.
Reports indicate that the youths turned hostile toward Natembeya, who was one of the leaders visiting to offer condolences to the family of the deceased legislator.
A viral video later showed Natembeya being escorted to his vehicle by security as an angry crowd of youths followed him.
However, Natembeya later denied the claims, asserting that no one could drive him out of his home turf and labeling the reports as mere propaganda.
