Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of making inflammatory claims and questioning his record in government.
Speaking during a political address, Junet alleged that Gachagua was involved in the 2023 demonstrations in which police officers were accused of targeting opposition leader Raila Odinga.
He further claimed Gachagua had never publicly mourned Odinga, whom he accused the former deputy president of opposing politically.
Junet also criticised Gachagua’s understanding of economic management, arguing that he failed to meaningfully participate in economic recovery efforts while serving as deputy president.
He contrasted the former deputy president’s record with what he described as improvements under President William Ruto’s administration, including economic growth, improved fuel supply and government-to-government fuel procurement arrangements.
Junet said the opposition needed to evolve into a credible force focused on issues affecting Kenyans rather than what he described as personal attacks and political mobilisation.
He also defended the government’s response to victims of protests, saying a compensation framework had been established and that hundreds of claims had been processed.
The legislator further warned that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) would not enter into any political arrangement with Gachagua.
Junet maintained that if another impeachment motion against Gachagua were brought before Parliament, he would support it.
“If an impeachment motion is brought tomorrow again against Gachagua, we will still do it,” Junet said, defending the earlier removal of Gachagua from the deputy presidency.
His remarks come amid escalating political exchanges between Gachagua and allies of the Ruto administration.
