President William Ruto has confirmed Kenya will complete its full deployment of police officers in the war-torn Haiti by January next year.
His government he promised will fulfil the commitment of a stabilisation force of 2, 500 officers to restore peace in the Caribbean country.
Speaking during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Ruto said Kenya had already deployed 382 specially trained officers, whom he visited in Haiti last week.
“I must emphasise, however that that Kenya will deploy the additional contingent towards attaining the target of all the 2,500 police officers by January next year.,” Ruto promised.

Adding; “The progress so far in Haiti demonstrates that what once deemed mission impossible is indeed a present and undeniable possibility”.

He praised the United States and Canada for financial and logistical support and appealed for greater funding to assist other contributing countries.
Conflict in Haiti erupted after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021.
Former Prime Minister Ariel Henry took office at a time when gangs occupied strategic infrastructures of the nation.
