Former Murang’a gubernatorial aspirant Jamleck Kamau has announced that he will no longer contest the county’s top seat in the 2027 General Election.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Tuesday, Kamau said the decision followed deep reflection, consultations and prayers.
“I wish to formally announce that I will not be vying for the position of Governor of Murang’a County,” he said.
Kamau said his decision was guided by his belief that leadership is about serving the people and not necessarily holding elective office.
“Leadership is ultimately about serving the people, not merely seeking elective office. My commitment to the people of Murang’a and to Kenya remains unwavering,” he added.
Instead, Kamau said he will now focus on supporting the United Alternative Government, saying the coalition offers a vision of a united, just, accountable and prosperous Kenya.
“I have chosen to dedicate my energy and efforts to supporting the United Alternative Government,” he said.
He urged his supporters to respect his decision and continue working with him in pursuit of what he described as a greater national cause.
“I humbly ask all my supporters, friends and well wishers to embrace this decision and continue standing with me as we pursue a greater cause for the renewal of our nation,” Kamau said.
Kamau’s withdrawal reshapes the Murang’a governor race, where several leaders have expressed interest in succeeding Governor Irungu Kang’ata.
Among those linked to the contest are Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, former Principal Secretary Wairagu wa Maai and other aspirants expected to declare their bids as political realignments gather pace ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kamau’s decision is likely to influence political calculations in the county, particularly within the opposition, as parties continue positioning themselves for the next General Election.
