Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reaffirmed his commitment to the opposition’s unity drive, stating that the focus remains on liberating the country ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking after visiting Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at his rural home in Tseikuru, Gachagua described the gathering as a crucial step toward building a unified opposition front that will challenge President William Ruto in the next polls.

“The focus remains strong. Kenya must be liberated. I’m glad to be in Tseikuru with my brother Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and our team,” Gachagua posted on social media following the high-level political talks.

The Thursday meeting, held at Kalonzo’s Muuna home, brought together key opposition figures, including Martha Karua (PLP), Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, among others.

The leaders are said to be working behind the scenes on what sources have described as a ‘top-level deal’—a structured roadmap that would see the opposition rally behind a single presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

This was the second high-profile unity meeting in recent weeks, following a similar session last month hosted by Gachagua at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County.

Analysts say the opposition is keen to avoid the fragmentation that marred past elections, with efforts now focused on creating a power-sharing framework and joint manifesto that will appeal across regions.

Insiders hinted that the Tseikuru meeting explored not just leadership roles but also broader issues affecting the nation, including economic hardship, governance, and constitutional reforms.

“The time for divisive politics is over. We must put our people first and offer them an alternative that reflects the true spirit of democracy and justice,” one of the leaders reportedly said during the closed-door meeting.
