The Selection Panel overseeing the recruitment of the Chairperson and members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has completed the longlisting process and is set to publish the names of applicants on March 6, 2025.

The panel, appointed by President William Ruto on January 27 via Gazette Notice No. 715, received a total of 1,848 applications by the February 15 deadline.

However, after reviewing submissions, the panel identified duplicate applications, unreferenced applications, and submissions for unadvertised positions.

This review resulted in a refined list of 1,556 candidates—37 for the Chairperson position and 1,519 for Member positions.

“To account for the number released on 16th of February 2025, a total of 211 applications were duplicates either in soft or hard copy, 91 were un-referenced, 14 were stray applications and 176 were email replies by applicants to the Panel’s Email auto response acknowledgement as indicated below,” said the Panel Chairperson Dr. Nelson Makanda

The longlist will be published in two national newspapers, the Kenya Gazette, and the Parliamentary website. The panel will then proceed to the shortlisting phase before scheduling interviews.

Makanda reaffirmed the commitment to a transparent and fair selection process, emphasizing adherence to the 90-day deadline set by the IEBC Act. He also expressed gratitude to the public and the media for their continued support and coverage.

The final nominees will be forwarded for appointment upon completion of the process.
