Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his grassroots mobilization drive after welcoming former Jubilee Party Nakuru gubernatorial aspirant Joel Maina Kairu and a host of Jubilee politicians to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Speaking at his Wamunyoro residence on Wednesday, Gachagua said the growing number of defections to DCP demonstrates the party’s expanding influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“The DCP Party wave is sweeping across the country and continues to attract aspirants and members in droves,” Gachagua said.
According to the former Deputy President, Kairu joined DCP after consultations with his supporters and residents of Nakuru County, who he said had urged him to align with the party.
Kairu was accompanied by the Chairman of All Nakuru Jubilee Party Aspirants Benson Preston Kariuki and several current and former Jubilee aspirants, including Kabatini MCA Paul Thuo, former Eburu Mbaruk MCA Samuel Kariuki Mugi, former Nakuru East MCA Mwaniki Sonko and a number of MCA aspirants from various wards across Nakuru County.
Gachagua described the latest defections as a sign of growing confidence in DCP, adding that more political leaders have already scheduled visits to Wamunyoro ahead of his planned tour of Nakuru County on August 14 and 15.
“Hundreds of other aspirants have already booked visits to Wamunyoro ahead of my visit to Nakuru County,” he said.
The former Deputy President has been using his Wamunyoro home as a political coordination centre, where he has been receiving leaders and aspirants from different parts of the country seeking to join DCP.
The latest defections come as Gachagua continues to expand the party’s presence beyond the Mt Kenya region in preparation for the 2027 elections, positioning DCP as a key player in the opposition.
He concluded his remarks with the party’s signature slogan, declaring, “Indeed, the future is GREEN.”
